About The Artist:
Lucia Aguilar
Lucia Aguilar is a Bay Area-based multidisciplinary artist. Her practice entails mainly oil and acrylic painting and branches into music, video, sewing, and animation. Using her ironic and humorous take on American pop culture and repetitive thoughts, Lucia creates work that questions celebrity, purity of the art space, and illusion.
The Humor in Paint
"I create artwork that challenges the viewer, disorienting their perception of the art space. My intention is for my artworks to feel like direct questions or messages to the audience, provoking a sense of strangeness that often manifests as laughter, scoffing, or expressions like “What the fuck?”. If I can provoke such a reaction, I know I have succeeded in my goal.
In my view, the art space should push boundaries and intertwine with culture while offering the audience something to contemplate or take away. It should not only be a place of observation but a place for defiance and humor."

Lucia Aguilar attended undergrad at San Francisco Art Institute from 2015-2017 and California College of the Arts from 2017-2019, earning a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts focusing in Painting and Drawing.
